Having received various requests from staff members wishing to return to work, Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS) was prepared to consider suspending the current lock-out provided that both unions would be willing to sign an agreement stating that there would be no violence, vandalism or disruption in the event of such a suspension.
Unfortunately, the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) has made it clear that they are not prepared to consider such an agreement and GABS has therefore, regrettably, had no choice but to continue with the lock-out. It is extremely unfortunate that SATAWU has taken this position, effectively making it impossible for workers who wish to return to work to do so and thereby holding the company and commuters to ransom.
We will continue to keep the public informed through all channels available to us.
